Thursdays are my new Fridays!

Having classes for four days out of the week is great! It allows me to save money in gas traveling back and forth to school and I get to sleep in on Fridays! Next week I am going to start my 40 hours of observation and I can not wait! Being able to finally sit in a classroom and see things from a persepective other than a student is going to be extremely interesting. I am really enjoying my ED 348 and ED 447 classes. These classes are not structured to textbook learning. They provide hands-on activities that make you think outside the box.

Last night, I watched the Republican debate as a requisite to my American Government course. I am a registered Republican but I do not vote strictly within my party lines. I think it is important to listen to each candidate and what they plan to do to fix our economy. The candidates united in attacking the Democratic party. Each candidate has their own ideas on how the economy should be fixed and the steps to do so. Tonight President Obama is addressing the nation and I am intrigued as to what his response is. By incorporating speeches into a class, I am more apt to want to know more about the topics the candidates are presenting. http://2012.republican-candidates.org/

  1. Kristalyn, So............which of the Republican candidates had an economic plan that interested you? Did you find President Obama's jobs bill interesting and worthy of consideration? What did you like about either of the plans...................Republican and Democratic? What, in your opinion, needs to be done in order to build confidence in our country again? I am interested in your political views. Please share them here on this blog and we can get a dialogue going. Dr. Ries

  2. Dr. Ries, I actually like Mitt Romney and how he wants to keep taxes low, regulation predictable, and get people back to work. I am also interested in Ron Paul, especially since he consistently votes against government interference in decisions. I am a firm believer in the regulation of the government. I feel that a laissez faire economy is best, one in which the government is "hands off." By doing this, the American people can then decide, along with representatives to pass the laws, such as Congress, what will work best to recover our economy from its current recession. If the government is involved in over regulation, I believe there is a stalemate between the Democrats and the Republicans, where nothing is accomplished. When President Obama was running for office in 2008, I was a strong advocate. I felt that he could be the change America needed. Although I still support him as my president, my confidence in him as a leader has diminished. Instead of just saying he will do all these great things, he needs to put them into action now. The American people are not happy. There is the highest unemployment rate in America today than there has been in many years. I believe that taxes on small businesses should be cut and there should be more taxes placed on the wealthy. President Obama's proposal is estimated to put 1.3 million people back to work. His plan would definitely be beneficial to most of society, especially those who are unemployed. However, the plan costs $450 billion. As much as I like and respect President Obama, if the American people are not put back to work soon, he will not be elected into the presidency in 2012. I also think that our troops should be taken out of Iraq and Afghanistan immediately. The war were are fighting with these countries is way overdue and our soldiers need to come home. America should not lose another soldier over a war that should not be happening. Soldiers represent what America is: the willingness to do anything for the country they love. This is why our soldiers need to come home and protect us.
